Intro to heat treatment of steel (hardening and tempering)

I try to bridge the gap between in-depth theoretical explanations of heat treatment, and rote tradition.

  1. This is great Ben! Like you, I've built my own PID kiln. I've been following the tool steel supplier's heat treating procedure blindly, without knowing the why's and wherefore's. Now I get it! Thanks for the inspiring posts!
OT- how about a little tool box pr0n? I notice you've got a nice collection of shiny snap-on stuff!

  2. Great video. Over the past few weeks I've been trying to learn more about treating steel, but I was just having the hardest time understanding it; I've searched all over the place for information. Luckily I found a few sites that explained it a little bit more. I'm just hoping I'll be able to at least get the basics of this down.. http://www.pacmet.com/index.php?h=capabilitiesandservices
